When first established in the U.S in the mid-90s’, very few Americans knew about the CMA CGM Group, a French company with headquarters based in Marseilles. The first office was based in New Jersey which developed so fast that the Group decided to build its own building in Norfolk; it became CMA CGM America’s Head Office in the U.S. in 2005. CMA CGM America’s head office remains there, but our U.S. presence has expanded, represented by 5 main regional offices in New Jersey, Chicago, Long Beach, Houston and Atlanta.
Today, the Norfolk office employs 700 staff, but a larger number of employees are based in the U.S. Our ten American offices employ 825 staff as well as an additional 200 at U.S. Lines, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group.
With solid growth CMA CGM has established an ever growing presence in the United States, demonstrating the confidence of the Group in this very dynamic market. As a global carrier, CMA CGM links the U.S., a leading global power, to the rest of the world. The most important U.S. services are the Columbus service (linking Japan, China, the U.S. and Canada with cargo vessels with a capacity of 8 000 to 9 000 TEUs) and the Pearl River Express service (linking China’s East Coast to the U.S.’s West Coast with cargo vessels with a capacity of 12 000 TEUs).
The CMA CGM Group is in constant communication with its customers and its vendors, including ports and terminals, to ensure everybody is working towards the same goals and guaranteeing the best possible services.
Initiated by Jacques R. Saadé, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, with a capacity of 18 000 TEUs, has become the largest vessel ever to call at a U.S. port. She is currently completing her maiden calls on the Pearl River Express service, connecting the main China ports, including Xiamen, Nansha and Yantian, with the U.S. West Coast ports.
By deploying such a large vessel in the U.S. for the first time, CMA CGM provides its customers with links to a global network, combined with the convenience of a personal service.
