For its 3rd year of existence, the CMA CGM Group Foundation for Children kept on working while respecting its 3 main objectives: improving sick children everyday lives, promoting equal opportunities for children coming from underprivileged backgrounds and to encouraging the personal development of children with disabilities.
This is the reason why the CMA CGM Group Foundation for Children worked for Voice of the Lebanese Woman in Beyrouth and ABA Apprendre Autrement in the South of France in 2008.
Voice of the Lebanese Woman
This association was founded in 1970, by Lily Sarah in Beirut. It carries out actions in the social, medical and educative fields. Really active during Lebanese Civil War, the association is today pursuing its proximity activities towards unprivileged children in Fanar and Aïn el-Remmaneh neighborhoods. It received the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation for Children Prize in 2008. In 2009, the Fanar medical center moved in new facilities furnished and equipped thanks to the CMA CGM Group Foundation’s support.
A medical team – nurse and doctors – welcomes people from neighborhood without medical support. The association also follows up families, at home or in the center, regarding social issues. They offer academic support and “clubs” to provide some educative, sports and cultural activities to children.
Marie Sfeir is the Vice-President of Voice of the Lebanese Woman, and describes the Foundation’s action for her association as following:
“Fanar’s medical and social center was created in 1984 in a narrow provisory room in one of the most underprivileged region of Lebanon. Thanks to the CMA CGM Group Foundation for Children, it fully developed and became this wonderful building now hosting a dispensary, a dental clinic and above all, the pride of the neighborhood: a leisure center for young people which contributes to make them get off the streets. From the bottom of our hearts, in the name of all the inhabitants of the neighborhood, we want to thank the Foundation, that helped Voice of the Lebanese Woman in making the Fanar Center the beating heart of the neighborhood.”
ABA Apprendre Autrement
The same year, the CMA CGM Group Foundation for Children participated in buying pedagogical furniture to equip Les Coteaux d’Azur medical and educative Institute in Carros. This is a pilot and innovative institution, hosting 20 children and teenagers with autism and development troubles from 6 to 20 years-old. They offer a personal mentoring following ABA’s principles.
