In 2012, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation launched Containers of Hope, a large-scale operation in the field of humanitarian transportation towards Africa putting the know-how and expertise developed by the CMA CGM Group at the service of the main French NGOs. In the frame of this operation, the CMA CGM Foundation developed partnerships with MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders), the Red Cross France, ACF (Action Contre la Faim / Action Against Hunger) and Handicap International.
The Containers of Hope operation enables the transport for free of containers filled with humanitarian equipment on CMA CGM line services and vessels, particularly to the African continent, in the 43 countries where the Group is settled, via its local agencies and ports of call. This way, the Containers of Hope operation allows partner NGOs to make substantial savings in terms of transportation costs.
In this context, the Containers of Hope partnership agreed in September 2012 between the CMA CGM Foundation, the CMA CGM Group and the French NGO MSF will celebrate its fifth year at the end of 2017. Passing through CMA CGM Head Office in mid-January, Doctor Mego Terzian, Chairman of MSF France, shared a few words about this operation.
“This Containers of Hope collaboration with the CMA CGM Foundation contributed in shipping to 15 African countries the therapeutic food and logistical equipment required for treating excluded populations.”, Dr. Mego Terzian, MSF France, Chairman
Dr. Mego Terzian also added that CMA CGM takes care of 80% of MSF’s shipment.
For more than 40 years, MSF has provided medical support to populations whose lives or health are threatened. The NGO intervenes wherever emergency situations take shape, as far as its human and financial resources allow it.
“CMA CGM streamlines our operations. Thanks to its local presence and reputation in Africa, issues always come to an end more easily with your Group.”, Dr. Mego Terzian, MSF France, Chairman
As the CMA CGM Foundation and Containers of Hope operation’s partner NGOs underline it, each and every Group employee in France as well as worldwide plays a direct or indirect role in those humanitarian missions.
