When did you join the CMA CGM Group? In which department?
I joined the Group in June 2012, at the Reefer department, where we are in charge of the shipment of refrigerated goods. I work on the South American Lines, specifically with Ecuador, Peru and Chile.
We are transporting essentially fresh products: avocados, apples, grapes, kiwis, cherries coming from Chile and Peru, and bananas from Ecuador. Reefer market strongly depends on the seasonality of the goods. The price of the goods can double from one month to the next!
How would you describe your job as an Area Manager?
My main tasks are to prospect new clients, and to monitor the goods with them. One of my key missions is to always propose new solutions for finding new markets and new goods, and to ensure that our ships always leave the port full!
Since South American is an active economical region, I must follow up with daily news, competition’s rate variations, and also with the price of the goods on the market. Actually, pricing is decided collaboratively with Line Managers and Miami Regional Office because of its direct connections to local markets.
What makes your job so interesting?
I really enjoy working in an international environment. CMA CGM is a company opened on the world, and I get to interact every day with people from so many different cultures. I really appreciate working in this global environment, as it is a never-ending source of personal enrichment.
As an area manager, I work with many different players, especially with the local agents, based overseas and who have a strong knowledge of their prospect area. Despite the distance between us, we have a friendly work relationship, which I much appreciate.
How did your education help you to join CMA CGM Group?
After a commercial & technology degree, I wanted to study international commerce. I did my bachelor degree at Edinburgh University, then a master degree in business administration at Aix-en-Provence University, Southern France.
What are your future projects within CMA CGM Group?
I’m going soon to do a “JUMP” (Junior Upwards Mobility Program), in Ecuador. This program purpose is to work in a CMA CGM agency based overseas, to gain new skills and responsibilities in an unknown environment. Meanwhile, a co-worker of CMA CGM Ecuador will take my position during the next 6 months at the Head Office.
