Captain TECUTA: My name is TECUTA Ilie, I’m a Master Mariner unlimited license. I’m Romanian and live in Iasi, Romania.
On which ship do you currently work? (What is its route?)
Captain TECUTA: I am presently on leave but my last vessel was the CMA CGM CAYENNE, serving the NEFGUI LINE.
How long have you been working for CMA CGM?
Captain TECUTA: Continuously, from February 1999 and as Master since November 2004.
What is your background (studies, previous positions)?
Captain TECUTA: I graduated from the Nautical Institute Mircea Cel Batran, Constanta, with a third mate license in 1987, sailing as a third mate, a second mate and a chief mate with different companies, including the largest Romanian State Company NAVROM. I practically never stopped sailing or tried anything else.
Why did you choose this career?
Captain TECUTA: It is a challenging profession. I like to travel, to meet different people, visit different countries and, last but not least, I like to work with and to get in touch with different cultures and mentalities.
What do you like most about your job?
Captain TECUTA: It offers freedom to decide, to choose your priorities, to organize and to deal with various situations or problems. Being at sea also means that you have proper time for reflection, for planning and for dreaming of the years to come.
If you had any pieces of advice to give to someone who would like to follow your path, what would it be?
Captain TECUTA: Although it’s a hard job only for those with strong characters, it’s still a special job which offers much in return if you can find the motivation to pursue it.
