How often do you train?
If time permits I’ll train in two different disciplines a day, six days a week. I try to do two disciplines a day: a session in the morning with a 10-15km run or a 40-65km bike ride. I alternate the days of my morning runs and cycling. In the evening after work I’ll swim twice a week, and three times a week I go to the gym.
This is all planned, it all depends on time, and if there is an increased workload I’ll try to lunch in, so I can finish and go off for my evening schedule. At the weekends I do a longer run and a longer bike discipline.
It runs in the family, my children are into sports as well. I’m very happy to be a role model for them.
How do you manage to train with a busy schedule?
I plan my training weekly, not every day of the week, but I try to keep at it.
What does sport represent for you?
Sports are a lifestyle. I’ve never looked back since 2003 and want to continue to do them.
I watch less TV, get more rest, eat well and also I get to travel to do these races.
Would you have a piece of advice to give to someone who is willing to start training?
Sport is a must. Maintaining an ideal weight is a must. Take up sports before the doctor tells you that you should.
If you had something additional to say, what would it be?
Enjoy what you do. Keep yourself busy at all times.
